SATURDAY, JUNE 5, 2021 – At approximately 20:50 hours, firefighters from Montréal Fire Department (SIM) Stations 61 and 62 responded to 37 Brunswick Boulevard in the Montréal suburb of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, for a fire alarm call. While responding to the scene, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames on the horizon and immediately reported a working structure fire, striking a second alarm (10-12) as soon as they arrived. They found a three-story residential apartment complex made up of approximately 149 units already well-involved through the roof and along the Charlie side of the wood-and-brick structure and conducted a primary search to be sure all occupants were able to evacuate safely. The fire spread quickly and soon engulfed all three floors, leading to third, fourth, and fifth alarms being called, sending over 125 firefighters from across the Island of Montréal scrambling towards what was quickly becoming a massive inferno. During an interview with Montréal Fire Department Prevention Chief Louise Desrosiers, MTL.911 received good news that every tenant of the building was able to escape unharmed and were all accounted for by responding firefighters and Canadian Red Cross personnel. The SIM is working alongside the Red Cross and the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux to provide temporary accommodations for those who cannot return to their homes, with some being set up in hotels and others being taken in at emergency shelters inside municipal buildings. Desrosiers was also able to confirm that the building had partially collapsed due to extensive damage but that no firefighters had suffered injuries during the intervention. Fire investigators will be conducting an examination of the property to determine the cause of the fire on Monday. The fire was finally extinguished around 12 hours later, at 08:50 on Sunday, the 6th of June, 2021. SAMEDI LE 5 JUIN 2021 – Vers 20h50, les pompiers des casernes 61 et 62 du Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) ont répondu au 37, boulevard Brunswick dans la banlieue montréalaise de Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, pour un appel d’alarme incendie. En se dirigeant vers les lieux, les pompiers ont observé une épaisse fumée et des flammes à l’horizon et ont immédiatement signalé un incendie de bâtiment, déclenchant une deuxième alarme (10-12) dès leur arrivée. Ils ont trouvé un complexe d’appartements résidentiels de trois étages composé d’environ 149 unités déjà victime de flammes bien alimentées à travers le toit et le long du côté Charlie de la structure en bois et briques et ont effectué une recherche primaire pour s’assurer que tous les occupants étaient en mesure d’évacuer en toute sécurité. L’incendie s’est propagé rapidement et a englouti les trois étages, ce qui a incité le déclenchement des troisième, quatrième et cinquième alarmes, appelant plus de 125 pompiers à travers l’île de Montréal en renfort, étant conscient de ce qui devenait rapidement un incendie massif. Lors d’une entrevue avec Louise Desrosiers, Chef de la section Prévention du SIM, MTL.911 a reçu la bonne nouvelle que chaque résident de l’immeuble a pu s’en sortir sans blessures et que tous ont été pris en compte par les pompiers et le personnel de la Croix-Rouge canadienne. Le SIM travaille aux côtés de la Croix-Rouge et de la Ville de Dollard-des-Ormeaux pour offrir des logements temporaires à ceux qui ne peuvent pas retourner chez eux, certains étant installés dans des hôtels et d’autres étant accueillis dans des refuges d’urgence à l’intérieur des bâtiments municipaux. Desrosiers a également pu confirmer que le bâtiment s’était partiellement effondré en raison de dommages importants mais qu’aucun pompier n’avait subi de blessures lors de l’intervention. Les enquêteurs du section des Causes et des circonstances d’incendie procéderont lundi à un examen de la propriété pour déterminer la cause de l’incendie. L’incendie a finalement été éteint environ 12 heures plus tard, à 08h50 dimanche le 6 juin 2021. Autres agences participantes: Service de police de Montréal (SPVM), Urgences-santé, Patrouille municipale de Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
