FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2024 РAt approximately 16:15 hours, firefighters from Montr̩al Fire Department (SIM) Stations 42 and 72 responded to an abandoned elementary school located at 6520 Gouin Boulevard West (previously reported to be 12275 Somerset Road) in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough of Montr̩al, QC for reports of fire conditions at the property. Soon after their arrival, firefighters confirmed the reported conditions and struck a first alarm (10-07). An interior search of the building was performed, however firefighters found nobody inside and decided to strategically evacuate to an exterior attack position for fear of the dangerous environment inside. At 16:44, a request for a second alarm (10-12) was made, followed by a third (10-13) at 16:56, and a fourth (10-14) at 17:22. The structure, a single-story educational facility made of brick and wood, had been built in 1922 and had served many years as an elementary school, including most recently the Ville-Marie Montessori School, but had been abandoned since at least 2012. Records show that the property has been owned by the Montr̩al School Service Center (Centre de services scolaire de Montr̩al) since 2020. However, because the CSSDM replaced the Montr̩al School Board (Commission scolaire de Montr̩al) on the same date that the CSSDM took ownership of the property, we can hypothesize that the Commission had owned it previously. The fire grew slowly but steadily, causing a section of the building to collapse in on itself. Over 110 firefighters in total were mobilized to respond to the intervention, which was only extinguished some four hours after the first alarm was struck. The building is a total loss, and a cause for the fire unknown.

VENDREDI LE 5 AVRIL 2024 – Vers 16h15, les pompiers des casernes 42 et 72 du Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) se sont dirigés vers une école primaire abandonnée située au 6520 boulevard Gouin Ouest (précédemment signalée comme étant le 12275 chemin Somerset) dans l’arrondissement d’Ahuntsic-Cartierville à Montréal, QC pour la présence de conditions d’incendie dans le bâtiment. Peu après leur arrivée, les pompiers ont confirmé les conditions signalées et ont déclenché une première alarme (10-07). Une fouille intérieure du bâtiment a été effectuée, mais les pompiers n’ont trouvé personne à l’intérieur et ont décidé d’évacuer stratégiquement vers une position d’attaque extérieure par crainte de l’environnement dangereux à l’intérieur. À 16h44, une demande pour le déclenchement d’une deuxième d’alarme (10-12) a été effectuée, suivie d’une troisième (10-13) à 16h56 et d’une quatrième (10-14) à 17h22. La structure, un établissement éducatif d’un seul étage fait de brique et de bois, avait été construite en 1922 et avait servi de nombreuses années comme école primaire, y compris plus récemment l’École Montessori Ville-Marie, mais avait été abandonnée depuis au moins 2012. Les dossiers démontrent que l’immeuble appartient au Centre de services scolaire de Montréal depuis 2020. Cependant, comme le CSSDM a remplacé la Commission scolaire de Montréal à la même date que le CSSDM en est devenu propriétaire de l’immeuble, on peut émettre l’hypothèse que la Commission en était propriétaire auparavant. L’incendie s’est développé lentement mais sûrement, provoquant l’effondrement d’une partie du bâtiment sur lui-même. Plus de 110 pompiers au total ont été mobilisés pour répondre à l’intervention, qui n’a été maîtrisé que quatre heures après le déclenchement de la première alarme. Le bâtiment est une perte totale et la cause de l’incendie est inconnue.
