WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 2020 – At approximately 12:30 hours, protesters began to gather at Dorchester Square in the Ville-Marie district of Montréal, QC to participate in a “grand student walkout” hosted by a number of student organizations at UQAM (Université de Québec à Montréal) in support of the Wet’suwet’en First Nations people in British Columbia, who have been in strong opposition to TC Energy’s proposed Coastal GasLink pipeline. After holding a rally at the Square, the protesters took to the downtown streets, filing eastbound along both the major arteries of Saint-Catherine Street West and Sherbrooke Street West. Due to the event’s pacific nature and cooperation with law enforcement, the SPVM (Montréal Police Department) did not interfere with the demonstrators at any point. The protest ended after the group reached their destination of Berri-UQAM métro station at the intersection of Berri and Saint-Catherine Streets. Present during the protest were a few new police vehicles, which includes Patrol unit 20-1 and Urban Brigade unit 76-55, which is fitted with an LRAD (Long-Range Accoustic Device) and two 360° cameras, as well as a Motor Unit Supervisor and the Intervention Group’s unmarked Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

MERCREDI LE 4 MARS 2020 – Vers 12h30, des manifestants ont commencé à se rassembler au square Dorchester dans l’arrondissement de Ville-Marie à Montréal, QC pour participer à un “grand walk-out étudiant” organisé par plusieurs organisations étudiantes de l’UQAM (Université de Québec à Montréal) en solidarité avec les membres des Premières nations Wet’suwet’en de la Colombie-Britannique, qui se sont fortement opposés au projet de pipeline Coastal GasLink proposé par TC Energy. Après avoir organisé un rassemblement sur le square, les manifestants sont descendus dans les rues du centre-ville, se dirigeant vers l’est le long des artères principales de la rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest et de la rue Sherbrooke Ouest. En raison du caractère pacifique de l’événement et de sa collaboration avec la police, le SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal) n’a pas jugé nécessaire d’interférer avec les manifestants. La manifestation a pris fin après que le groupe a atteint sa destination de la station de métro Berri-UQAM à l’intersection des rues Berri et Sainte-Catherine. Présents lors de la manifestation étaient quelques nouveaux véhicules de police, dont l’unité de patrouille 20-1 et l’unité de la Brigade urbaine 76-55, qui est équipée d’un LRAD (Long-Range Accoustic Device) et de deux caméras à 360°, ainsi qu’un superviseur de l’unité Motard et la Mercedes-Benz Sprinter banalisée du Groupe d’intervention.
