Montréal | Montréal Fire Service (SIM) Responds To Hazmat Incident at CHUM Superhospital Cancer Unit

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 2018 – At approximately 9:45 hours (EST), SIM (Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal) firefighters responded to the Cancer Unit of the CHUM (Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal / University of Montréal Health Centre) Research Centre at 1051 Sanguinet Street in the Downtown neighbourhood of the Ville-Marie district of Montréal, QC. Pumper 220 and Tower Ladder 720 were first due and requested the assistance of other stations, including Station 29 firefighters, who are specialized in hazourdous materials interventions. It is thought that the incident involved radiation that is often present during treatments and research of cancer, which the CHUM specializes in. No more important information is known at this time due to the fact that the incident occurred on one of the building’s limited access higher floors. Thankfully, there seemed to have been no injuries. The situation was brought under control at about 10:45 hours (EST).

Footage was taken on June 27, 2018.
