Here you will see first-on-scene footage of SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal) officers and cadets assisting citizens with extinguishing a garbage fire behind a residence at 2008 Cartier St. in the Downtown district of Montréal, QC before SIM (Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal) firefighters had arrived. The fire of unknown origin was spotted by a passerby who quickly alerted nearby SPVM cadets of the situation. An officer retrieved a small fire extinguiser from the trunk of a police cruiser to help put out the fire. Citizens and police began working together once the extinguisher was used, using buckets full of water from a nearby restaurant kitchen to throw onto the still kindling flames. A few minutes later, Pumper 226 (temporarily housed at Station 19) arrived on the scene with backup from Pumper 216 and Ladder 405. Firefighters sprayed down the area with water to ensure that there were no more hotspots left that could reignite the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, however it could have been something as simple as a discarded cigarette.
Footage was taken on August 11, 2017.
