SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2017 – Here you will see my complete footage documenting the major natural disaster that affected much of Canada and especially the Province of Québec, dubbed “The Great Flood of 2017”. This flood had disastrous consequences, causing millions of dollars in damages and forcing the evacuation of over 1500 people in Québec from their homes, all the while affecting the Island of Montréal, its surrounding suburban cities and more than 130 other municipalities in the province of Québec. It even claimed the life of a man who was attempting to help others who were trapped in the area. By May 8, 1500 soldiers from the Canadian Armed Forces had landed in several locations around Québec to help citizens with the arduous relief efforts. Some have speculated that the cause of such flooding had been in part due to the combination of heavy rainfall and melting snowpack, with others pointing out that it might have been a consequence of global warming. In this video, I cover the districts of Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Île-Bizard, both of which were hit particularly hard on the Island of Montréal. The scenes that I filmed were like something out of an apocalyptic movie; truly horrifying.
By the way, I spent 5 hours filming on the scene to create this video. I hope it was worth the effort!
All footage was taken on May 6, 2017.
